Our Business

Our Story

Derek and Kristin Peterson are thrilled to be taking on this new adventure of business ownership. Fraughton Meat Processing has been a family owned business and will continue to be so under the Petersons. Derek and Kristin have been married for almost 22 years and have six children. The Petersons have relied on wild game meat to feed their family for most of their marriage. The main stipulation Kristin gives to Derek each time he goes out hunting is that he will try his hardest to bring something home to help feed the family. Both Derek and Kristin know the value of a job well done when it comes to proper handling of their wild game.

Derek is an avid hunter and fisherman, and has been processing wild game on a smaller level for 15 years. As a hunter, Derek understands the trust hunters give to the meat processor when dropping off their animal to be made into steaks, roasts, ground, and specialty items. Fraughton Meat Processing is a business that has had an excellent reputation for quality and care so when Derek saw the opportunity to take ownership of FMP he knew that he could continue to build on that tradition. Derek wants hunters to know that their animal will be in the best hands possible when they bring their successful hunt into his shop.

Derek also has a background in microbiology, chemistry, and medical biocompatibility. He believes his experience in these scientific fields will help maximize the care it takes to process wild game. From having the ability to look at tiny details, to the understanding of care needed when an item is known to be entering a human body.

After being a stay at home mom for 18 years Kristin returned to school at Weber State University last fall. She is going into education so she can continue to have an impact in the lives of children for many more years. While she wasn’t raised in a family that went hunting, she sees the benefit hunting is for families as well as the joy it can bring to hunters when they get that trophy kill. Learning to cook with wild game has been an adventure, but Kristin will tell anyone that there are times when she has made a recipe using elk that tasted better than any beef or sausage she has cooked with. Preparation of the meat is key and that starts with the initial processing. Kristin has seen first hand the attention to detail Derek takes when processing wild game and she will put every trust into him and this endeavor to run Fraughton Meat Processing.
